More than 1,100 freshmen and residential advisers volunteered for the eighth annual Service First Sept. 2. The volunteers helped to paint and renovate 12 area public schools, including Farragut Elementary (above), to prepare them for the new academic year.

The program introduces first-year students to community service in the St. Louis region. Upon returning to campus, students participated in a service fair and barbecue.
