Weidenbaum portrait unveiled

Murray Weidenbaum, Ph.D., the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor of Economics in Arts & Sciences, is almost a mirror image to his portrait, which was unveiled in a recent ceremony honoring his service to the University and the nation. Flanking Weidenbaum at the ceremony are Steven S. Smith, Ph.D. (right), the Kate M. Gregg Professor of Social Sciences in Arts & Sciences and director of the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy; and Edward S. Macias, Ph.D., executive vice chancellor, dean of Arts & Sciences and the Barbara and David Thomas Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences. The portrait, painted by local artist Gilbert "Chic" Early, will be displayed at the Weidenbaum Center. A member of the faculty here since 1964, Weidenbaum was founder and longtime director of the Center for the Study of American Business, a University-based think tank renamed in his honor in 2000. A respected public-policy scholar, teacher and public official, Weidenbaum served as the first chairman of President Reagan's Council of Economic Advisers. He is the author of nine books, including his recent memoir, Advising Reagan: Making Economic Policy, 1981-82.
