Campus Watch

The following incidents were reported to University Police Oct. 19-26. Readers with information that could assist in investigating these incidents are urged to call 935-5555. This information is provided as a public service to promote safety awareness and is available on the University Police Web site at police.wustl.edu.

Oct. 19

8:32 a.m. — A staff member reported the theft of her cell phone and cash from her purse. The items were taken from her office in McMillan Hall.

9:51 a.m. — A student reported that a silver T-Mobile Sidekick II cell phone was taken from Whispers Café in Olin Library between 8-8:15 a.m. The phone had been left on a table in the café. Total loss is estimated at $300.

Crime alert

Two individuals were walking at approximately 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the area of Skinker Boulevard and Washington Avenue when two people approached them from behind. The suspects displayed a handgun and demanded wallets and book bags. The suspects then fled east on Washington.

One suspect is described as an African-American male in his mid-20s, about 6-foot-3, clean-shaven and wearing a black leather coat, black shirt and a black scarf on his head.

The other suspect is described as an African-American male, about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, with "puffy" hair and wearing a baseball cap with black and white lettering.

Precautions:

• Be alert to your surroundings. If you suspect you are being followed, run in a different direction; go to the other side of the street and yell or whistle for help; or head quickly to a lighted area, a group of people, or business;

• If you are confronted by a thief, give them what they want.

• Avoid walking or jogging alone; never walk or jog alone after dark.

Additionally, University Police responded to three larcenies, three parking violations, two reports of suspicious persons, and one report each of assault, fire, fraud and auto accident.
