The closure coincides with the start of excavation for the southwest station entrance. Once the excavation is deep enough, the hole will be covered with steel plates to accommodate traffic as the workers continue to work on the station entrance.

When complete, the entrance will provide a tunnel for MetroLink riders to get to either side of the tracks without being above ground.
