In 1946, this Busch Hall chemistry lab featured tables that had been installed at the turn of the century. Several upgrades and expansions later, the Department of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences now occupies five buildings totaling 242,000 square feet. The newest addition to the chemistry department is the Arts & Sciences Laboratory Science Building, which opened in August 2002 and contains 11 undergraduate teaching labs. More than 1,000 students take at least one chemistry course each year, and about 50 students graduate each year with an undergraduate chemistry degree.
