Bruce Lindsey named dean of Architecture in Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts

Bruce Lindsey, the Paul Rudolph Professor of Architecture at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., has been named dean of the College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design, both part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

The appointment — effective Nov. 10 — was announced Sept. 28 by Carmon Colangelo, dean of the Sam Fox School as well as the E. Desmond Lee Professor for Community Collaboration in the Arts.

Missouri voter registration deadline approaching

The Office of Government and Community Relations wants to remind members of the Washington University community that the voter registration deadline is approaching. To be eligible to vote in Missouri's upcoming November election, you must be registered by Wednesday, Oct.11, 2006. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006.

Parents in the dark about substance use and abuse in their adolescent children

A team of researchers led by School of Medicine scientists has found that parents often don't know when their children are using alcohol, nicotine or other drugs. "We found that parents knew their kids were using alcohol, cigarettes or marijuana only about half the time," said Laura Jean Bierut, M.D., associate professor of psychiatry and principal investigator of the study.

Living on the South 40: Faculty families interact with students

While the new crop of first-year students may appear to get younger and younger every year to longtime members of the WUSTL community, the 2-year-olds running around the South 40 aren't actually members of the Class of 2010. They are the children of the newest faculty families living on the South 40.

HPV vaccine at Health Center

The FDA recently approved a vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccine is called Gardisil, and is currently available at Student Health Services.

Higher Sense of Purpose lectures simulcast to School of Medicine

William H. Danforth will present "Medicine and Society" Oct. 3 in Graham Chapel. This will be simulcast in the Holden Auditorium on the first floor of the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center.
