After the December Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony Dec. 5 in Graham Chapel, a reception was held in Mallinckrodt Student Center.

Obituary: Townsend, 82; professor emeritus in physics, alum

He was named an assistant professor in 1951 and promoted to associate professor in 1957; he retired as emeritus in 1987.

Virgil Loeb memorial scheduled for Dec. 11

The professor emeritus of clinical medicine died Oct. 26 at age 83.
Zwerling Wrighton honored by YWCA

She was inducted into its Academy of Leaders at at its annual Leader Lunch, this year on Dec. 9 at the Millennium Hotel in St. Louis.

Mark Smith named director of Career Center

Currently the associate dean for students in the School of Law, he'll begin his new position Jan. 1.

Obituary: Van Duyn, 83; poet laureate, former instructor in English

A Pulitzer Prize-winner and the nation's first female poet laureate, she died Dec. 1 of bone cancer at her home in University City.
