Considered one of the founders of modern psychiatric genetics, "Our institution and psychiatry in general are significantly diminished by his loss."

Obituary: Zane Barnes: emeritus trustee, 82

A University trustee from 1975-1985, he was also credited with building Southwestern Bell into a telecommunications empire.
