Cowsik receives award from Indian institutions

Ramanath Cowsik, Ph.D., professor of physics and director of the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences in Arts & Sciences, received the 2007 M. P. Birla Memorial Award from the M. P. Birla Institute of Fundamental Research and the M. P. Birla Planetarium in Kolkata, India. The biennial award is given for exceptional achievement in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, particle physics and allied disciplines.

Egon Schwartz, Ph.D., Rosa May Distinguished University Professor in the Humanities Emeritus, is presented the Austrian Great Cross of Merit by Eva Nowotny, Austrian ambassador to the United States, in a ceremony Sept. 17 at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Schwartz was also presented with a book written in his honor by German scholars from around the world on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
