Walker Hall and Kemper Art Museum dedicated
The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum is both the centerpiece and the public face of the University's Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. The five-building, $56.8 million complex, designed by Fumihiko Maki, also features Maki's new Earl E. (above, center) and Myrtle E. Walker Hall, which will house studios, classrooms and offices for art students and faculty. Click to see photos from the Oct. 25 dedication of both buildings.
Record-breaking attendance expected at conference for women M.B.A.s at the Olin School of Business
The balance of power in law and medical schools in the past 20 years has shifted; women now represent at least half — if not more — of the students enrolled. During this same period, M.B.A. programs haven't experienced the same rapid rise in gender parity. However, that is beginning to change, and the Olin School of Business is leading the charge in making business schools as much a woman's place as a man's.
Dancing the day (and night) away
The annual Dance Marathon charity fund-raising event will be held Nov. 4-5 at the Athletic Complex. Dance Marathon is a year-long effort to raise funds and awareness for Children's Miracle Network (CMN) of Greater St. Louis. Planned and executed entirely by undergraduate students at WUSTL, all proceeds go directly to St. Louis Children's Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. While fund-raising events take place throughout the entire year, the main event is the 12-hour dance-a-thon.
Locks of Love
Locks of Love is an organization that makes wigs for children who have cancer or other illnesses that cause hair loss. On Nov. 6, WUSTL community members will be able to donate at least 10 inches of their hair, which will go directly to the Locks of Love headquarters in Florida to make the wigs. WUSTL's chapter of Locks of Love sponsors two events a year, during which professional hair stylists come to the University to cut and style hair.
