Poet Lynne McMahon to read for Writing Program

Poet Lynne McMahon will read from her work for the University's Writing Program Reading Series at 8 p.m. March 21 in Hurst Lounge.

A book signing follows the reading and copies of McMahon's works will be available for purchase.

"Lynn McMahon is a poet of astonishing range and graceful daring," said Carl Phillips, professor of English in Arts & Sciences and director of the Writing Program. "Her work reminds us that intellect and play are luminous kin."

McMahon is the author of three books of poetry: "The House of Entertaining Science" (1999), "Devolution of the Nude" (1993) and "Faith" (1988). Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, Poetry, APR, Kenyon Review and the Yale Review, among others. Her many awards include the Pushcart Prize and the Best of American Poetry Prize as well as grants from the Guggenheim and Ingram-Merrill foundations. She serves as a professor of English at the University of Missouri, Columbia.
