Campus quiz: What building do you enter when you pass under this arch? Answer below.
Professional growth
Need help setting priorities, handling stress or managing your time? Courses offered through the training and development division of the Office of Human Resources can help. The division recently announced its fall/winter 1998 program for University employees. Among the offerings are several professional development courses, including "Managing Multiple Priorities," "Managing Change and Stress," "Service for Success" and "Team Leadership." Others deal with information systems, such as the on-line Asset System, the Financial Information System and FOCUS. For more information or a copy of the course catalog, call 935-6970. The catalog includes a listing of computer courses offered through Bernard Becker Medical Library and classes on conducting research using University Libraries' electronic resources and the Internet.
A giving spirit
In 1997, 1,689 Campus Y student volunteers contributed no fewer than 34,957 hours, serving 33,440 St. Louis metropolitan area residents and agencies. Continuing a WU tradition that goes back nearly 90 years, the Campus Y coordinates 25 ongoing programs that address a variety of issues, interests and community needs. For more information or to volunteer, call 935-5010.
Be prepared
University Police offer a free self-defense course for women teaching the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System. The next sessions will be Sept. 26 and 27. Taught in more than 40 states and Canada, the RAD System offers easy-to-learn, effective physical defense techniques that might enable you to survive the violent encounter that awaits one in three women. Classes are limited to 16 women. To register, contact Jacqueline Cooper at 935-9011. For more information on the course, call Steve Hazel at 935-5536.
