Revisiting Olympic history
Ty Keough, Washington University's men's soccer coach, carries the Olympic torch through the Francis Field gate on May 28. The event marked the University's continuing legacy with the Olympic Games. Francis Field was the site of the 1904 Third Olympiad Games, the first held in the Western Hemisphere. After a short ceremony at Francis Field, the torch made its way into Clayton and then into downtown St. Louis. The nationwide Olympic Torch Relay will wind its way to Atlanta, site of this summer's Olympic Games. Keough was chosen to carry the torch because he was a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic soccer team. Keough did not get the chance to compete, however, because the United States boycotted the Moscow Games. Photo by David Kilper.
