British journalist Fisk to discuss politics after Sept. 11

British foreign correspondent Robert Fisk will deliver a talk called "Reports From the Middle East: The Politics of War, Foreign Policy and the Media Since September 11" for the Assembly Series at 11 a.m. Nov. 13 in Graham Chapel.

Fisk has been covering events in the Middle East for 26 years, first with The Times of London, and since 1988, with the London-based Independent newspaper.

His knowledge of the Middle East is extensive, and throughout his tenure he has covered most of the significant stories, including the Iranian revolution, the Iran-Iraq War, the Persian Gulf War, the conflicts in Algeria and Kosovo, and most recently, the war in Afghanistan.

He has interviewed Osama bin Laden three times, most recently in 1997. Over the course of his journalistic career, Fisk has received 24 British and international press awards.

Prior to being stationed in the Middle East, Fisk served The Times as Irish correspondent, based in Belfast.

In addition to his regular dispatches from the field, he has written three books: Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War; In Time of War: Ireland, Ulster and the Price of Neutrality 1939-45; and The Point of No Return: The Strike Which Broke the British in Ulster.
