Teaching community involvement

Above, freshman Sheief Gaber (left) and senior Annabelle De St. Maurice pull weeds at Hamilton Elementary School Aug. 31 during the fourth annual Service First, an initiative that introduces students to community service. More than 1,000 students attended the event, helping to clean, update and renovate eight St. Louis public schools and two University City schools. Projects ranged from painting to decorating bulletin boards to gardening.
