Obituary: Bowyer, 81, Olin professor emeritus

Bowyer
John W. Bowyer, professor emeritus in the Olin School of Business, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at his home in St. Louis after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 81.

Bowyer earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor of business administration degree from Indiana University before serving in the Army in World War II. Full story

Islamic Law and Civilization lecture March 27

David Forte will speak at 3 p.m. March 27 in Anheuser-Busch Hall, Room 309. Forte's lecture, "Islamic Law and Civilization," is sponsored by the School of Law's Federalist Society and the Whitney R. Harris Institute for Global Legal Studies.

Forte is professor of law at Cleveland State University. He holds degrees from Harvard College, Manchester University (England), the University of Toronto and Columbia University. Most recently, Forte has been serving as an adviser on Islamic affairs for the Bush admin-istration.

Forte is one of the foremost experts in the field of Islamic law. During the Reagan administration, Forte served as chief counsel to the U.S. delegation to the United Nations and alternative delegate to the Security Council. Full story
